CHARACTER NAME: Roderick "Roddy" Geiger
SERIES: Grimm
CANON POINT: After Danse Macabre
AGE: 17
APPEARANCE: As a human

As a Reinigen

PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY: N/A

PERSONALITY: Roddy has a temper. From a lifetime of being looked down on and being picked on, combined with the fear of having a more dangerous wesen or a grimm show up and kill him or his father, he's not quick to trust others or their intentions. While violence isn't his first answer to danger, as he tried to run away when he realized Nick was a grimm and likewise when he saw that Monroe was a blutbad, once he feels cornered, he will turn around and attack. He tried to punch Nick, though he also demonstrated that he doesn't really know how to fight, he fought back when his classmates jumped him, and he lured his classmates into a dangerous swarm of rats.

Roddy views himself as someone who is, due to circumstances of birth, at the bottom of the metaphorical food chain, both in the human and wesen world, fighting tooth and nail to earn his place in the world. He feels angry and bitter at the rich kids who made fun of him, but at the same time he feels superior. He knows he's better than them, at least when it comes to his violin playing, and he knows that jealousy is a major motivator in their treatment of him. However, knowing this only makes him hate the rich snobs at school even more, particularly since their position allowed them to take away what he'd worked hard for by getting him suspended.

Others typically perceive him as either gifted, troubled, or both. Some of the latter was likely due to his suspension, which was, in reality, not a fight he'd started, though it is clear that he does harbor some very real tension and anger.

He also has shown a tendency to, when angry or frustrated, take his temper out violently on the inanimate, punching things, knocking them over, even creating small explosions by covering things with gasoline and lighting a match in an effort to vent his frustration at the world.

Furthermore, he has a strong connection to family. The only known family he has is his father, but nothing set him off more than knowing his father wouldn't be released, and hearing that his father was injured. His father was also shown to be very protective of Roddy and proud of his musical genius. He was likely the one that taught Roddy that grimms were dangerous, and it's clear that they have a good relationship. His father's nervousness and protectiveness is likely enhanced by the fact that they are at the bottom of the food chain in their world.

Roddy has a love of music, and he's versatile in what kind. He has no problem with playing a beautiful violin concerto, and then turning around and being a DJ at a rave. What's more, is he's good at it. It's the one thing about him that people admire and get jealous of, and he genuinely enjoys playing for any audience, even a hoard of rats. Ultimately, he hopes to get a career as a violinist.

Roddy is also not one to let a relationship go. For example, he goes by his girlfriend's house after he's become a suspect in a murder case, in part because he expects her to know it wasn't him and to let her know his suspicions that the real perpetrator was her current boyfriend, but when she mentions she 'used to' care about him, he kisses her, despite her clearly being uncomfortable with the situation, trying to remind her of how she felt about him. He is emotional, impulsive, and at times makes tense situations more tense because of this.

However, Roddy is also compassionate. While a major concern with being framed was the fact that he and his father were going through a lot of hardship because of it, at the end when everything's resolved and Roddy's stunt doesn't end up harming anyone, the detective on the case comments that at least no one was hurt, and he's the one to remind him about the teacher. He did care that he was framed, but he also cared that the other kids had killed an innocent person.

ABILITIES: Roddy is a reinigen, a type of wesen (supernatural creature) who resembles a rat. Most of the time he seems human, but he does have the ability to 'woge', or change into a humanoid creature with rat-like features.

There are two versions of the woge, both brought on either naturally by extreme emotion, or can be forced by a desire to shift, though the latter has been shown to take more time and effort to do so. The first version is where he shifts, but humans still perceive him as looking human. In his own world, grimms and other wesen can see the shift, however. On the ship, anyone who is supernatural in nature would be able to see this level of shifting. The more complete version of woging requires more extreme emotion, like fear for his life, and would be visible to anyone.

Some wesen gain extra advantages when they woge, but as of yet, any advantages have not been demonstrated with the reinigen. However, they do have rat-like incisors, so it's likely that they might have the ability to chew through things on the same level as a normal rat, though if so, this is likely not something Roddy makes a habit of doing. Also, due to the rat ears and frequently twitching nose, as well as the fact that most wesen have shown enhanced senses similar to their animal counterparts, like he's sniffing his surroundings, it can be inferred that when he's in his rat-like form, he can smell and hear on a level close to a rat's.

One thing to note is that wesen frequently have scars in one form that aren't present in the other. This indicates that there's some degree of separation in the two forms, and that while injuries won't carry over, they will be present when he changes back. Of course, if one form dies they both die, and when he's knocked unconscious in his rat form, he will still be unconscious when he shifts back to his human form. This implies that it is only surface level injuries that go away, and broken bones and other severe injuries would likely remain in either form, with only the skin becoming whole when he shifts.

In addition to shifting into a more rat-like form, Roddy is able to mesmerize rats and, to a certain extent, control their behavior. Due to the fact that the rats shown seem to follow him and seem comfortable around him at times when he's not playing his violin suggests that normally, they might just perceive him as another rat. However, playing his violin does clearly mesmerize them and make them follow much closer, in addition to giving him a certain degree of control. For example, he was able to whip them into a frenzy making them attack his classmates when he wanted. However, it was clear that the control was not complete. He could make them attack, but he couldn't prevent them from attacking the girl he liked, as well, even though he was clearly horrified by what they were doing once they started attacking her.

The rats on the ship aren't normal rats, but the same idea would apply. To them, he'd smell like a rat, and he might gain some control over them by playing his violin, but if they were attacking someone, he couldn't get them to stop. He might be able to attract them, make them more violent or enthrall them with the beauty of his music to keep them from noticing other interlopers, but otherwise he'd have no added advantage in keeping them from attacking other people. Furthermore, if they started attacking someone and he did attempt to help them, smelling like a large rat or not, there's a good chance he'd still get bitten and attacked, since he'd still be a large rat that was behaving aggressively toward them in that moment.

POSSESSIONS: Roddy will come with the clothes on his back (a black t-shirt, his leather jacket, and a pair of jeans), as well as his violin (in it's violin case). The contents of his pockets will consist of spare change and pocket lint.

JOURNAL ENTRY SAMPLE: [The video comes up on a very pissed looking Roddy. He just read over some of the 'material' people posted explaining his situation, and he's not happy about it.]

So basically, what everyone's saying is that I'm a fucking lab rat?

Fuck this. I'm not letting anyone 'experiment on my threshold for negative stimuli' or whatever, and I don't care if I have to jump overboard and swim across the ocean, I am not going to stay here and let that happen.

[...not that he'd actually do that. He knows he'd drown. After a moment, his face shifts...sort of. Those of a supernatural nature will see his face shift into something that looks a bit more rat-like, with rodent incisors and basic facial structure. To anyone else, he still looks normal.]

And what are they feeding us here? I mean, even the rats look really starved. Like...their bones are sticking out. Literally. I'm pretty sure I've never been anywhere where even rats can't find food.

[And it has him worried. If little rats are having trouble staying in good health, then a really big one will have similar problems.]

But anyway, I guess that doesn't matter, because I won't be sticking around long enough to find out.

[And with that, the feed cuts out.]

THIRD-PERSON SAMPLE: Roddy wandered through the corridors, violin case clutched firmly in his right hand, eyes and ears alert to every sight and sound around him. He'd woken up on the deck of this ship, where monsters were flooding the area and attacking people. He didn't know what was going on, but he knew he had to get out of there. He'd figure out where he was and what was going on after he found somewhere safe.

After wandering the halls for what felt like forever, he headed down a flight of stairs and, opening a door and passing through it, found some kind of large cargo hold. It was full of large metal boxes and...ew. Was that some kind of giant roach scurrying across that crate over there?

However, what really caught his eye were the rats. They look undead, honestly.

"Holy shit! What the hell?"

Roddy, used to being around normal rats and feeling sorry for this creature, scooped it up carefully to examine it closer. It sniffed its hands, and without eyes to tell it otherwise, the rat seemed to determine that Roddy was, in fact, another rat. A very large other rat. As it climbed alone, the scythe-like forelegs pricked his skin, drawing little droplets of blood until the rat reached the edge of the jacket.

"Ow!" Roddy quickly put the rat down, setting his violin case down, initially just wanting to free up his hand, when he got an idea. Opening the case, he pulled his violin out and began to play.

From the first note, the rat he'd carried before snapped to attention. Then, as he played each consecutive note, more and more rats gathered around to listen to the music, just as they had back home, and each one had that same horrible, desiccated look about them. Roddy paused, looking around.

"Uh...guess we should go find some food?"

But he knew that food wasn't the only problem here. Not with their front legs looking like that. Still, feeding them couldn't hurt, right?
